Recovery

Recovery includes actions taken to return a community to normal or near-normal conditions, including the restoration of basic services and the repair of physical, social and economic damages. Typical recovery actions include debris cleanup, financial assistance to individuals and governments, rebuilding of roads and bridges and key facilities, and sustained mass care for displaced human and animal populations.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) coordinates recovery from an emergency through:

Coordination with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management
Acting as a liaison between the City and state in matters of impact and recovery and facilitating the fulfillment of all eligibility requirements for state assistance.

Coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Working through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, the OEM coordinates with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) when a state disaster is declared.

Tracking overall City response
Providing forms for documentation, ensuring proper documentation and compiling documentation for submittal. In addition, the OEM completes an after action report with lessons learned and if required will perform an after action meeting.
